Artist-scholar life is bizarre: winter beach day Look what came in the mail this week ☀️. Fab actor/editor/writer @lara.mrkoci created this very cool zine where she reached out to artists, writers, and friends for answers to -- "what advice would you give your younger self?" The book holds a lot of wisdom and fun and I'm so glad to be a part of it. Can you guess which chunk of hindsight is mine? I think about my writing buddies from 2013 all the time. It's wild that this weekly writing group run by @juliapileggipoetry & @sasharsw was ten years ago now. What these incredible humans taught me about spontaneity and trusting your subconscious is still with me every single day. This Thursday, I'll be running a playwrighting class with my intro to theatre students at UWaterloo and so much of what I learned from JP, SSW, Kat, & @cfysh is in there, in the lessons I'll be sharing with the class. My big take away from this time though? The need to find fellow writers who you can grow up with and fail with and laugh with too. 2022 in treasures ☀️ pen pals 📚 a little hiver to take us through the end of year Winston's showing off his cool new look. It was very sweet of him to get knee surgery to match me, but he maybe didn't think this one through . . . He's had a bit of a rough week, but this tough pup's doing ok. I'll tell him you were thinking about him. 36
